Field Trip to the Tall Ships Event

In conjunction with the Tall Ships Festival that is held in Dana Point each September, the Ocean Institute and OC GRIP hosted 175 students from Title 1 Schools in North Orange County. Gilbert School and Whitaker School were both invited for a beautiful and exciting day at Dana Point Harbor. Students who attended this trip, earned this special opportunity by having perfect attendance all last year and/or excelling on their SBAC state tests last spring. Mrs. Little, Mrs. Higgins, and 25 Grizzly students boarded one of seven historic tall ships for a sailing adventure featuring historical reenactments, including cannon battles. Grizzlies were aboard the ship called Exy Johnson for several hours, and they got hands-on training in what it was like to be a sailor sailing the seas in the late-1700s and early-1800s. Students were surprised and delighted to be a part of a historical cannon battle reenactments. We are proud of the Grizzlies who worked hard to earn this special surprise field trip.
